Chomp 2! Return of the Carnivorous Plants
Through Oct. 31.
The Conservatory of Flowers becomes a Little Shop of Horticultural Horrors with an exhibition of carnivorous plants. Full of deadly delights, it immerses visitors in a swampy paradise for meat-eating plants. Learn about trapping strategies such as the famous spring trap of the Venus flytrap, pitfall traps, flypaper traps, and suction traps. Included are demonstrations and activities for kids. The word "geometry" might dredge up sweaty-palm memories of classrooms, textbooks, and trying to calculate the volume of a cube but at this exhibit, it means climbing inside cool, giant 3D shapes, and watching yourself in a big curved mirror as you try to play hopscotch. The Playground includes over twenty exhibits.

Watercolor Wonders and More!
Tues., Aug. 10, 10am-noon. Children age 7-12 will learn how to marble, collage and paint, and make colorful art projects using water colors and other media, inspired by Filoli’s tranquility and beauty. A light snack and water will be provided. For children only.
Nature and You

Children age 8-12 explore Filoli’s Nature Preserve, and learn about the animals that make it their home while creating a record of their discoveries. The program combines nature education with artistic journaling. Students should bring bottled water and dress for the outdoors, in sturdy shoes and layered clothing. A light snack will be provided. Parents may accompany their children.
Student Appreciation Day at Filoli Filoli will show its appreciation for the many Bay Area students who are participating in their Children’s Art Exhibit—America the Beautiful by celebrating the artists and their achievements. There will be sketching in the garden, fun art projects, nature hikes, garden explorations, and other activities for all young visitors. POP is a sponsor of this event. Festive Fundraising Event at Historic Site in Woodside
Filoli welcomes everyone, especially families, to this historic site’s annual Autumn at Filoli Festival The festival includes fruit tasting of the rare and unusual heirloom pears, apples and grapes from Filoli’s orchard. Docent-led tours of the historic orchard, containing more than 650 varieties of heirloom fruit, are available throughout the day. Activities are planned for all ages including, live music, the popular Happy Birds shows, autumnal art projects, Randall Metz and his Puppet Company, Ravioli the Clown’s magic show, children’s face painting, photo opportunities in the pumpkin patch, and the supervised Family Fun Land of outdoor games and activities for children. Admission for Autumn at Filoli Festival is $20 for current members of Filoli; $25 for non-members; $5 for children between the ages of 5 and 17 years and free for children 4 years and younger. Advance purchase is strongly recommended as Filoli has a limited number of tickets available due to space constraints. Visitors are encouraged to car pool to the event. Barbeque (or vegetarian) lunch is available, by advance purchase only, for $16; a child-sized portion lunch is available for $9.
